April 12, 2024 Fort Lauderdale, Florida
After a good night’s sleep, we had breakfast in the breakfast room which is adjacent to the lobby. There was a good assortment of hot and cold breakfast items. The day was sunny and already about 23°C. We left mid morning for a three hour walk in the Davie neighbourhood. It is home to a number of colleges and universities. The sidewalks were shaded by palm trees and other kinds of trees. We could hear many different bird calls on the streets with less traffic. Along a pond, in the bushes near the sidewalk, we saw several ducks, one, who might have been sitting on a nest did not move away as we passed. We explored a Publix grocery store where we discovered fresh salad and fruit packages that we bought for dinner. The only restaurants within a 15 minute walk are McDonalds, Wendy’s, Waffle House and some local Chinese food and a steakhouse. We saw several bakeries too.
Our trek was over 11 kilometres (almost 7 miles) showing over 17,000 steps.
In the lobby of the hotel there is 24 hour tea and coffee station. Off the lobby is a business centre with chairs and tables USB and electric charging stations plus a computer, printer and 65 inch TV screen. It was a quiet place to check emails while our room was tidied. Larry reserved seats on the shuttle to the cruise terminal for tomorrow morning.
The rest of the day we read our books having read between 150 and 200 pages on the planes and in the airports yesterday. We look forward to the library on the ship.
Once we get on the ship tomorrow, we have six sea days and won’t have internet until we reach the Azores in a week’s time, so no posts until April 20th after which the posts will be almost daily.
