April 16, 2024 Sea Day #3

Today was Sea Day #3. It was already 13 hours since the medical evacuation rendezvous near Bermuda. The outside temperature at 7 a.m. was 18°C, and a cloudy sky.

Before breakfast we walked on the Promenade Deck. There was a wind and the sun broke through the clouds occasionally. We ate breakfast in the dining room with a couple in their 50s from Indiana, a couple from Halifax in the late 60s and a couple from Washington in thier late 70s.

The daily agenda for the morning included the coffee with the cruise director at 9 a.m. in the B.B. King’s Blues Club. This morning’s guest was the ship’s 3rd engineer. Heather told us that yesterday’s guest was the ship’s executive chef. Also daily on sea days the cruise director hosts an afternoon session at 4 p.m. with the entertainers. Today it is with Mentalist, Santiago Michel. At 10 a.m. in the same venue was another talk by retired pilot Paul Eschenfelder about early aviators Charles Lindbergh and Beryl Markham, a female aviator who lived in Kenya. She flew solo in 1936 from England to Nova Scotia.

On the BBC news channel today Copenhagen’s historic Old Stock Exchange building which  was under renovation was severely damaged by fire.

At noon the clocks went ahead another hour. We read for awhile before going to the complimentary Wine Tasting for mariner levels 4 and 5, otherwise it was listed in the daily program as costing $29. There were four wines with 2 oz. samples and four cheese plus one candied walnut, 1/4 strawberry and slice of crusty bread. The wines were Domaine Carnerod by Talttinger, Vintage Cuvée 2019, California at $68 per bottle; Joseph Cattin Riesling 2022, Alsace, France at $40; Williamette Valley Vineyards, whole cluster Pinot Noir 2022, Williamette Valley $65 and Wedgwood Vintners, Symphony 2021 (a claret - Cabaret Suavingnon 51%/Merlot 25%/ Malbec 24%) Suisun Valley, California $98. Heather was at our table with two couples from Florida and we saw Lynn and Bill at another table. Over 60 people participated in the wine tasting.

All eight of us were at our 5 p.m. dinner seating.  We skipped dessert in favour of Ballroom dance hour in B.B. King’s Blues Club. There were again about ten couples dancing. When we requested a Nightclub tune, we were the only ones dancing, but waltzes saw six or seven couples on the dance floor. There were also 25 or 30 people just watching the dancers.

Tonight’s entertainment in the World Stage Theatre at 7:30 and 9 p.m. was a black male quartet, Vox Fortuna, which placed in the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in the mid 2010s. At 9 p.m. we joined the Line Dancing class n B.B. King’s Blues Club.
